Montevideo, Uruguay, August 29 – The Government of Uruguay, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), hosted the Uruguay Innovation and Artificial Intelligence Forum. The event brought together representatives from key Americas Business Dialogue (ABD) member organizations, technology experts, policymakers, and innovators to explore the potential of establishing Uruguay as an innovation hub and its broader impact on Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and beyond.
The event aimed to strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors to explore how new technologies that drive innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development across LAC. Uruguay’s digital transformation efforts, supported by public-private partnerships and investment in emerging technologies, took the spotlight as a model for the region.
Uruguay has long been recognized for its forward-thinking approach to technology and innovation. The countries strong infrastructure, skilled workforce, and supportive government policies have positioned it as a leader in innovation within LAC. Through initiatives like the Uruguay Innovation Hub, Uruguay has encouraged knowledge sharing between global innovation hubs and local communities, enhancing its talent pool and supporting the growth of tech startups.
The forum covered a range of topics, from the latest advances in digital technologies to their ethical implications and potential to drive regional growth. Key sessions delved into the impact of innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on sectors such as education, the digital economy, and public services, while also addressing challenges related to data accessibility, regulation, and inclusion.
ABD Speakers representing the Latin American Internet Association (ALAI), Microsoft, Salesforce, Google, Amazon Web Services, Intel, Meta, Globant, Mercado Libre, and the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies (CUTI) shared insights on how AI can enhance Uruguay’s role as a regional and global hub for technological advancement. The event also showcased Uruguay’s leadership in creating an environment conducive to technological advancement.
The forum provided a valuable platform for policymakers, businesses, and innovators to engage in forward-thinking discussions on the future of technology and AI.
