Americas RISE for Health

On March 20th, the inaugural meeting of the Americas RISE for Health forum was held in Panama City, which implements Recommendation #28 from ABD's 2022 Report. The meeting was convened by the U.S. Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the ABD Health Working Group, and the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy (REDLAD).

More than 200 people participated, including representatives from government, private sector, civil society organizations, academia, and international organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP)

US-based ABD members took part in a session with the US Department of State, led by José W. Fernández, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, to address the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP), which was announced at the 9th Summit of the Americas. Following the meeting, ABD provided inputs for APEP in response to a set of questions raised during the meeting, based on ABD’s 2022 recommendations and participants’ feedback.

Digital health in Latin America and the Caribbean

Find out more about the latest publication from the ABD Health Working Group, carried out in collaboration with the IDB’s Social Protection and Health Division. The study complements two recent publications on regulatory frameworks for telemedicine and electronic health records in Latin America and the Caribbean, providing the private sector’s perspective and offering potential public-private solutions to address digital health challenges in the region.

UN Global Digital Compact Initiative

ABD participated in informal consultations in the context of the United Nations Global Digital Compact.

The Summit of the Future, scheduled for September 2024 in New York City, aims to reach a consensus on a Global Digital Compact that includes all relevant stakeholders, such as governments, the United Nations system, the private sector, civil society, grassroots organizations, academia, and individuals, including youth. The consultative process is an opportunity to contribute to the Global Digital Compact and share ABD's perspective with the international community.
