Environmental sustainability and investment decisions
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is working with the ABD to conduct a survey to determine how relevant environmental and social sustainability are for companies when making investment decisions. The survey also seeks to identify strategies and activities that the governments in Latin America and the Caribbean could implement to facilitate sustainable investment decisions.

The responses from ABD members will help governments gather information on the improvements and services they could provide to support investors more efficiently.

High-level dialogue. Artificial Intelligence: Public Policy Imperatives for the Americas
The ABD took part in Artificial Intelligence: Public Policy Imperatives for the Americas,” a high-level dialogue convened by the Organization of American States (OAS) in collaboration with the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The ABD was represented by Robert Blair, Senior Director of National Security and Emerging Technology at Microsoft, who highlighted members’ public policy recommendations to address major challenges facing the region. Inclusion, innovation, and the growth of the digital economy were the main lines of action discussed.

Ética Saúde Summit 2023
On May 4, the ABD took part in the Ética Saúde Summit 2023, which looked at major achievements in ethics and integrity and the role of these in the future of the health sector in Brazil and the rest of the Americas.
The ABD Technical Secretariat presented its recommendations and discussed milestones in the health-sector work that the ABD is carrying out, in collaboration with the IDB’s Innovation for Citizen Services division.

Action Plan on Health and Resilience in the Americas
The ABD commented on the Action Plan on Health and Resilience in the Americas, which was drafted by the Ad Hoc Technical Group on Health as part of the process for the Summit of the Americas.
The final document was adopted at the Ministerial Meeting of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG), which took place on June 23, 2023.

III Joint Customs Forum—Private Sector Regional Group for the Americas
The ABD took part in the III Joint Customs Forum—Private Sector Regional Group for the Americas, which was held in the Dominican Republic. The event addressed the role of MSMEs in economic development and their inclusion in international trade.
The ABD Technical Secretariat presented members’ recommendations, which aimed to promote more inclusive trade that benefits MSMEs. It also shared data that demonstrated that these companies are the backbone of economies in Latin America and the Caribbean and worldwide.

Inter-American Committee on Science and Technology
The ABD took part in the session on innovative technologies and solutions for resilient, sustainable, inclusive growth at the meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Science and Technology (COMCYT), part of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development at the Organization of American States (OAS). It is hoped that the ABD and this high-level regional forum will continue to work together in the future to design and execute public policies and create development partnerships in the areas of science, technology, and innovation.

Various ABD working groups met to discuss progress on different projects and coordinate future actions: Human Capital and Innovation (May 11), Food and Agribusiness (May 19), Energy and Natural Resources (June 26), and Health (June 28).

The ABD took part in the first SIRG Ministerial Meeting of the year; the 5th Ad Hoc Meeting of the Technical Group for the Health and Resilience Action Plan; the meeting on the Inter-American Democratic Governance Action Plan; and the technical meeting of the Joint Summits Working Group convened by the Summit of the Americas Secretariat at the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS). It was confirmed that the Dominican Republic will host the 10th Summit of the Americas in 2025.

The ABD Technical Secretariat attended the Steering Committee Meetings of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) to discuss collaboration in high-level dialogues in 2023 and its role in the next ministerial meeting, which will take place in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in March 2024.

The ABD participated in a webinar run by the Ibero-American and Caribbean Network of Regulatory Improvement to promote agile regulatory governance for innovation, which took place on May 26. Technological breakthroughs are driving extraordinarily complex change at an unprecedented pace, posing profound governance and regulatory challenges for governments around the world. In this context, the ABD released its public policy recommendations on transparency and integrity to increase government effectiveness and on how digitalization can leverage greater innovation.

The ABD was part of the Expert Discussion on Safeguarding the Integrity of Information and Counteracting Disinformation During Electoral Processes, which took place as part of the work of the Ad Hoc Group on the Inter-American Action Plan on Democratic Governance for the Summit of the Americas.
