On December 7, 2020, within the launch of the strategy of the Regional Digital Market of the Pacific Alliance (PA), a workshop was held to share its main details with representatives of the private sector and civil society to collect their perspectives and enrich the actions that governments will carry out.
The Americas Business Dialogue (ABD)'s participation was meant to advance a digital agenda hand in hand with the private sector, academia, and civil society. Rodrigo Yañez, Pro Tempore President; Fabrizio Opertti, Manager of the Integration and Trade Sector of the IDB; and Sebastián Rovira from ECLAC, participated in the event.
It was agreed that the public-private collaboration is fundamental for the advancement of the region's digitization process. The digital economy's benefits are translated into the democratization of access to trade for small and medium-sized companies to the global market.
The thematic sessions covered the following topics:
Session 1: Improve access to digital services and products through a more robust digital infrastructure in the PA.
Session 2: Create a favorable environment to promoting the exchange of goods, products, and services through digital means in the PA.
Session 3: Promote the digital economy in the PA to generate new sources of growth and productivity.
Rodrigo Contreras, ABD Coordinator, moderated the second session of the workshop. The exhibition focused on reducing barriers to electronic commerce, improving technical and legal interoperability, promoting online trust, privacy, data protection and cybersecurity, as well as discussing the importance of intellectual property and trade facilitation in the digital environment.
