The ABD was created after the first CEO Summit of the Americas (Cartagena, 2012), organized jointly by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Government of Colombia, to open a space for dialogue in support of public-private collaboration and to promote development in the region. Since then, the IDB has led the organization of the CEO Summit of the Americas with the respective host country every three years.

In the build-up to the II CEO Summit of the Americas (Panama, 2015), ABD successfully convened the Hemisphere’s private sector around a set of recommendations that were presented to the Heads of State in its report “From Dialogue to Action: Policy Recommendations and Public-Private Partnership Proposals”.

ABD reached a new milestone in 2018 as it presented its report “Action for Growth: Policy Recommendations and Plan of Action 2018-2021 for growth in the Americas” to the Heads of State of the Hemisphere present at the III CEO Summit of the Americas and, for the first time, during at VIII Summit of the Americas in Lima, as the private sector consultation mechanism for the Summits of Americas Process.
